The Maze Runner

Over the past year I have really gotten into Young Adult Literature (YAL).  Last week I read a wonderful book called The Maze Runner.  It reminded me a lot of Ender’s Game which is why I think I was drawn into the book so quickly.  The premise is that a group of kids are trapped in a community that is surrounded by a maze.  The story details their work ethic, survival skills and the development of their community on the Glade.  The maze is filled with obstacles and monsters that are a cross between nature and machines.  The writer does a perfect job of divulging enough to keep readers interested while carefully withholding details to keep people on the edge of their seat.
I am now anxiously waiting for Kyle to finish the Scorch Trials so I can continue on the journey with Thomas in the second book in the series.

2010

It is almost time for the New Year so I wanted to recap some of my favorite moments from 2010.  This year was a wonderful year for us!  We spent a lot of time with friends and family and doing things we loved.  This is the first year I truly felt like a grown up for better or for worse but there are some great things that come along with that so I guess no need to fight the fact that we are all grown up now (well most of us :-P).  I am even more in love with my husband this year than the year before and I hope I feel that way every year for the rest of our lives.  My best friend is engaged and will soon be enjoying married life as well and I am so thrilled for her and Will.  I have continued to grow closer to my family now and to Kyle’s which I’m so thankful for.  There are some big changes coming up next year for us and our friends so I’m sure it will be a roller coaster but I feel like I can face anything with such a wonderful husband, friends, and family.  Bring it 2011!

Black Swan

I was absolutely entranced by this film.  It was without a doubt one of the creepiest and disturbing films I’ve seen in quite some time but it covered a full spectrum of genuine emotion.  I was also glad to see a dance movie that exposed some of the uglier sides of the industry.  They were not afraid to show the eating disorders, age discrimination, and competitiveness and it really enhanced the believability of her descent into madness.  The acting was outstanding and I would recommend this movie to anyone even people who don’t love dance because there is so much more to the film than just ballet.

And so it begins. . . .

As part of Generation X I have become fascinated with reading blogs and so naturally I feel compelled to try my hand at it.  I am not a gifted writer like my husband but I love the idea of having an outlet to document your life. Blogs fascinate me because it's not just tiny fragments like pictures but it's full stories that are strung together with your own words.  It's like a modern day quilt that thankfully takes less time and manual labor :-)

Those who know me know that I have interests all across the board so I decided to focus on my adventures and thoughts as a 20 something who is trying to figure out how to balance work, family, friends, fun, and my creative outlets.  My plans is to write a little about everyday life and a lot about the things I love doing like dancing, music, reading, painting, and anything that inspires me.  I would love to say that I will be disciplined to write on this everyday but if I'm honest it will likely be 1 or twice a week.  Let the blogging journey begin!
